This system will collect and verify foreign visitors’ photograph and fingerprints of both index fingers to prevent the use of fraudulent documents, prevent identity theft, and stop criminals and immigration violators from entering and departing Taiwan. Implementing biometrics verification at border allows immigration officers to determine visitors’ identity faster and more accurately.
NIA launched the trial operation of Biometrics Verification System for Foreign Visitors at Kaohsiung International Airport on December 18th 2013. Foreign visitors aged more than 14 years old, including people from Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao residents, and nationals without household registration, are required to have their biometrics collected and verified when arriving and departing Taiwan. NIA will also deploy the system to all main airports and seaports on 2014.
